MI vs SRH Match Preview
HEAD TO HEAD: PLAYED 8, SRH 4, MI 4.
PLAYER UPDATES: Mustafizur Rahman, the key architect of the Sunrisers’ title winning season last year has returned to the squad from a successful Sri Lankan tour. 2 wins in 2 games has put the Orange army right on top of the points table. The team in their last game chased down a mediocre target of 135 at a canter and their Net Run Rate has sky rocketed to a positive 2.100, which will hold key in the final stages of the competition.
Ambati Rayudu, who suffered a groin injury in their first match against Pune is likely to miss a good two weeks of IPL cricket. The Mumbai Indians had their talisman pacer Lasith Malinga back in their squad and was introduced into the playing eleven without any second thoughts. The slinger ace wasn’t back to his lethal best, but he did manage a brace.
TEAM COMBINATION: The Sunrisers steamrolled their opponents Gujarat Lions, while the Mumbai Indians chased down a tricky 178 off the penultimate delivery. For the Sunrisers, the option of including Mustafizur Rahman for Ben Cutting is a reasonable one, but the latter has done enough to retain his place in the starting eleven. With four frontline bowlers and with Ben Cutting, Yuvraj Singh and Deepak Hooda filling the void for the 5th, this Hyderabad bowling attack is by far the best in the league. Rashid Khan produced probably the spell of the season the last time he bowled. The 18 year old leggie from Afghanistan has the craft to bewilder the best in the business and his full repertoire of trickeries were up for display against the Gujarat Lions.
Captain Rohit Sharma has looked out of sorts so far, but the Indian international is only a few hits away from his disdaining best. Sharma has batted at #3 and #4 in the first two games; a promotion up the order, where he can take the bowlers on in the power play might yield him better results. Jos Buttler can come in at one drop with Nitish Rana and the rest to follow. Rana has been the find of the season for the Mumbai Indians, but he’ll be up against the conjurer in Rashid Khan. The team now seems to have attained a fine balance and they’ll remain unchanged for this tie.
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT
Moises Henriques has been in blistering form this season. The 265 against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield was a major confidence booster and ever since, he’s looked a more complete batsman. The technique seems to have come of age and the purity in the strokes looks mighty impressive. With scores of 52, 52* in the first two games and decent seam-up deliveries, Henriques is the player to watch out for.
Rohit Sharma is the 3rd highest run getter in IPL cricket with 3879 runs at 33.15 and a striking ability of 131 runs per 100 balls. He’s had a series of low scores after his return from injury, but the Mumbai captain, regarded as one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball can dismiss any attack on his day. The win against the Knight Riders was a crucial one and he’ll have his tail up against a formidable Hyderabad attack.
MI vs SRH Match Prediction / Who will Win?
SRH OR MI: The win/loss record for the Mumbai Indians in this year’s IPL and their overall record against the Sunrisers has reached parity and the two-time champions will look to revamp their numbers. David Warner, however, has marshalled his troops with flair and aplomb. The Sunrisers beat the Rohit Sharma-led side both home and away last season and with their ongoing form, they are likely to come out victorious.
