Vivo IPL 2018 Player retention : The Indian Premier League is into its 11th edition and the franchises had some serious thinking to do before deciding which players to retain. The imperious league has grown exponentially and so has the amount spent on it. A maximum salary cap of 80 crores has been allotted to the franchises to pick their legions and here’s why player retention becomes extremely important.
IPL 11 Retention Policy
Case 1: If three players are retained; 15 crores for the first player, 11 for the second and 7 for the third remains the spending pattern. Also, only 5 players could be brought into the team using player retention and the right-to-match card. A maximum of 3 in each cover.
Case 2: If two players are retained 12.5 for the first and 8.5 for the second player can be spent. The franchise then has 3 right-to-match cards.
Case 3: If only one player is retained 12.5 crores is the salary cap. The team then can use only 3 RTM cards.
Case 4: The IPL has also imposed a salary cap of 3 crore for retaining uncapped players. Each franchise can retain a maximum of three capped India players, two overseas players and two uncapped Indian players.
